The aim of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of urban parks in the neighborhoods of Jahanshahr and Hesarak Bala, as an affluent and a less-privileged area of Karaj, respectively, in terms of the required capacities for women’s use. Data were collected based on 13 indicators using a survey-based approach, and were analyzed through descriptive statistics using SPSS and Excel software. In the complementary section, spatial analyses based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including vegetation cover (NDVI), land-use patterns, Moran’s spatial autocorrelation index, and accessibility zoning, were employed to explain spatial patterns. The findings revealed that the overall mean score of indicators in the parks of Jahanshahr was 3.79 (at a desirable level), whereas in Hesarak Bala it was 2.65 (at a moderate level). In the comparative analysis, Jahandidan Park in Jahanshahr and Shaghayegh Park in Hesarak Bala achieved the highest performance levels in their respective neighborhoods, while Hajiabad Park and Rasta Park were ranked at the lowest level.GIS results indicate that Jahanshahr exhibits higher spatial coherence (Moran’s I = 0.41), more continuous green coverage, and better accessibility to urban green spaces. In contrast, Hesarak Bala demonstrates weaker spatial coherence (0.15), fragmented green space distribution, and limited accessibility. These differences, together with the survey findings, indicate the direct influence of spatial structure on the quality of women’s use of urban parks.Important deficiencies in Hesarak Bala include narrow access routes to parks, high population density in streets, limited vegetation cover, the presence of stray animals, and discontinuity in pavement design. In contrast, Jahanshahr benefits from wider access routes, natural vegetation cover, and a more favorable physical environment. This considerable gap in the usability of urban parks between the two neighborhoods reflects a clear pattern of spatial inequality in Karaj. The results highlight the necessity for urban policymakers to adopt gender-sensitive public space design and to address spatial inequalities in order to ensure equal, safe, and high-quality access to urban parks for all citizens.
